2008 has so far seen the culmination of over six years of fund-raising for the embassy project. The governance and law and order crisis in East Timor in the second half of 2006 created delays to the project as nation-building projects, such as the embassy, had to give way to pressing humanitarian and law and order needs.

As a result of the fund-raising delay, Directors applied to the Federal Government for an extension of the period of tax deductibility for the Fund to the end of 2009. This was granted.

The Fund Directors are delighted that as a result of the generosity of Grocon Pty Ltd, to build the Embassy at cost, a building contract has been signed and construction has now commenced.
